Innovation Award for Dr. Bernd Winter

December 16, 2024

Dr. Bernd Winter, Group Leader in the Molecular Physics Department at the Fritz Haber Institute of the Max Planck Society, has been awarded the Synchrotron-Radiation Innovation Award. This honor recognizes his groundbreaking contributions to the advancement of liquid-jet photoelectron spectroscopy.

Award Ceremony and Recognition

The Synchrotron-Radiation Innovation Award is bestowed by the Society of Friends of Helmholtz-Zentrum Berlin. It honors outstanding achievements that have significantly contributed to the advancement of techniques, methods, or applications of synchrotron radiation. The award includes a monetary prize of 4,000 Euros and was presented on December 11th during the BESSY User Meeting.

Nomination and Laudatio

Prof. Dr. Gerard Meijer, Director of the Molecular Physics Department at the Fritz Haber Institute, nominated Dr. Bernd Winter and Dr. Manfred Faubel (Max Planck Institute for Dynamics and Self-Organization) for the award. In his laudatio, he highlighted their invention and leading role in liquid-jet photoelectron spectroscopy (LJ-PES). This technique enables the study of liquids in their nascent state using synchrotron radiation. With their pioneering work and impressive instrumentation development, Dr. Winter and Dr. Faubel laid the foundation for a new and growing research field.

We warmly congratulate Dr. Bernd Winter on this well-deserved recognition and are proud of his outstanding contributions to science.
