Diels-Planck Medal 2024
We are pleased to announce that Prof. Dr. Robert Schlögl has been awarded the prestigious Diels-Planck Medal 2024. Prof. Schlögl was the Director of the Department of Inorganic Chemistry at the Fritz Haber Institute at the Max Planck Society and currently serves as the President of the Alexander von Humboldt Foundation.
Recognition of His Achievements
Prof. Schlögl was honored for his outstanding contributions to catalysis research, particularly in the area of catalytic interfaces. His work has significantly advanced chemical catalysis and promoted chemical energy conversion.

Content of His Diels-Planck Lecture
In his Diels-Planck Lecture entitled “Catalytic Interfaces”, Prof. Schlögl presented important insights into the role of interfaces in catalysis. He explained how the combination of quantitative analysis and structural information from surface science has led to the development of microkinetic models that are crucial for understanding reaction mechanisms. His research offers new approaches for designing catalysts that are vital for the storage and transport of renewable energy.
About the Diels-Planck Medal
The Diels-Planck Medal is awarded by the members of KiNSIS (Kiel Nano, Surface and Interface Science) to internationally leading scientists in the field of nano and surface sciences. Named after Nobel laureates Max Planck and Otto Diels, the award honors their significant contributions to science.
We warmly congratulate Prof. Schlögl on this significant recognition and are delighted by his ongoing connection to our institute, particularly as a guest scientist in the Interface Science Department at the Fritz Haber Institute.
