Dr. Janis Timoshenko, W2 research group leader at the Interface Science Department at the Fritz Haber Institute of the Max Planck Society, has been elected as a foreign member of the Latvian Academy of Sciences.

Celebrating New Members and Their Achievements

On Thursday, December 19, 2024, the Latvian Academy of Sciences held a diploma presentation ceremony for its newly elected members. Among the distinguished honorees was Dr. Janis Timoshenko. The ceremony was attended by notable figures, including the Parliamentary Secretary of the Ministry of Economics, Jurģis Miezainis, and the Deputy Director of the Department of Higher Education, Science, and Innovation, Anna Leiškalne. These officials, along with representatives from various academic and research institutions, extended their congratulations to the new members.

Words from the Academy's President

Prof. Ivars Kalviņš, President of the Latvian Academy of Sciences, addressed the attendees, stating, “Today is a great festive day for us: the newly elected LZA members will receive diplomas that confirm they have reached a new pinnacle in their scientific careers, earning the highest recognition possible for a scientist in Latvia – election as members of the LZA family! It is particularly significant that no one can be appointed as an LZA member. The new LZA members have been selected through a competitive process and elected at the LZA General Assembly by the current voting LZA members. This means that our new colleagues have earned this recognition from the Latvian scientific community through their outstanding achievements in science and research.”
