FHI offers help to Ukrainian researchers

March 10, 2022

The Fritz Haber Institute of the Max Planck Society offers Ukrainian scientists working in related research areas to act as host institution for applications to the Philipp Schwartz Initiative of the Alexander von Humboldt Foundation. The Institute can also provide free work spaces.

In view of the war in Ukraine, the Fritz Haber Institute would like to offer help to Ukrainian scientists. It is therefore calling on Ukrainian researchers in related fields to come forward at short notice in order to submit a joint application to the Alexander von Humboldt Foundation's Philipp Schwartz Initiative. Due to the war, the Foundation has kindly postponed the application deadline to March 18, 2022.

The Philipp Schwartz Initiative enables acutely endangered researchers to stay at a German host institution for up to 24 months. An additional extension of up to 12 months under a co-funding model can be applied for in the course of the initial funding.

Normally, this application must be accompanied by proof of endangerment from a third party, but in view of the acute exceptional situation, this requirement has been waived in consultation with the Federal Foreign Office. Instead, the individual risk situation is to be presented in the form of a personal statement by the nominee in German or English of up to one page. Existing evidence from a third party may be enclosed as a supplement.

Apart from cooperations via the Alexander von Humboldt Foundation, it is also possible for Ukrainian researchers to use existing workplaces at the Institute.

For further information on how to apply, please visit the website of the Philipp Schwartz Initiative. If you have any questions, please contact the team of the Philipp Schwartz Initiative via schwartz-initiative@avh.de.

Interested scientists are kindly asked to contact the Institute as soon as possible via presse@fhi.mpg.de.
