First Repair Club promoting DIY Electronics Skills
The Theory Department at the Fritz Haber Institute successfully launched its first Repair Club, initiated by postdoctoral researcher Martin Deimel in collaboration with the ELAB. The event brought together colleagues to learn and share skills in repairing electronic devices, focusing on replacing batteries in older laptops.
The Repair Club initiative aims to equip individuals with the knowledge and skills necessary to repair their own electronic devices, fostering a culture of sustainability and self-reliance. Participants had the opportunity to engage hands-on with their devices, guided by volunteers, providing confidence and experience for future repairs.
Beyond the technical learning, the Repair Club served as a vibrant community gathering, encouraging participants to share experiences and build connections.
This event hopefully marks the beginning of a series of Repair Club planned at our Institute, with a long-term vision of empowering the community and promoting an awareness of how easy it can be to extend the lifetime of electronic devices away from the throwaway society.
