Open Access & EU Grants

Horizon 2020 is the EU framework program for research funding that came into effect on January 1, 2014 and has established guidelines for Open Access publication.

All scientific publications arising from Horizon 2020 funded projects must be published using open access.

Authors can choose between two roads:

  • the golden road, i.e. via an open access journal, or
  • the green road, i.e. via self-archiving and making the work accessible through MPG.PuRe. It must be made available in the accepted manuscript version no later than six months after initial publication.
