Local Funding (FHI)

The Fritz Haber Institute meets the publication charges in gold open access journals. These article charges are being paid by the library in arrangement with the management of the institute.

Article charges for journals that are only partial open access (hybrid journals) are not paid.

Central Funding (MPG)

The Max Planck Society aims at the transformation of today’s scholarly journals from the current subscription system to new open access publishing models.

American Chemical Society (All ACS journals)
The MPS centrally covers the open access charges for Max Planck affiliated submitting corresponding authors in ACS journals that offer a Creative Commons Attribution license (CC-BY). The ACS uses the Copyright Clearance Center (CCC) for their workflow.

American Institute of Physics
All publication charges for articles submitted by affiliated submitting corresponding authors in AIP-owned subscription journals will be directly funded by the MPS.
Article types: peer-reviewed primary research article or review article.

American Physical Society (All APS journals)
All publication charges for articles submitted by initial corresponding authors affiliated with any Max Planck Institute will be directly funded by the MPS (except „Physics“ and „Review of Modern Physics“).
Article types: regular articles, letters, rapid communications, reviews, perspectives and short papers.

BioMedCentral (All BMC journals)
Payment of your article processing charges is covered by the Max Planck Society Prepay Membership (for MP corresponding authors).

Cambridge University Press (All CUP journals)
The MPS centrally covers the open access charges for Max Planck affiliated submitting corresponding authors in CUP journals that offer a Creative Commons Attribution license (CC-BY).
Article types: research article, review article, rapid article.

ECS Plus (All ECS journals)
Max Planck corresponding authors are eligible to use the ECS Plus Open Access option without payment of article charges.

Frontiers (All Frontiers journals)
All publication charges for research articles submitted by corresponding authors affiliated with any Max Planck Institute will be directly and fully funded by the MPS.

Hindawi (All Hindawi journals)
Max Planck corresponding authors can publish open access at no costs to themselves in Hindawi journals.

Institute of Physics (OA for selected subscription journals)
All publication charges for articles, special issue articles, letters submitted by corresponding authors affiliated with any Max Planck institute will be directly funded by the MPS.
Article types: article, special issue article, letter.

IoP Gold OA Journals (New Journal of Physics / Journal of Physics Comm. / Environ. Research Lett.)
The MPS pays the article publication charges centrally for these three gold open access journals where the corresponding author is affiliated to a Max Planck institute.

MDPI (All MDPI journals)
Max Planck corresponding authors can publish open access at no costs to themselves in MDPI journals.

Oxford University Press (All eligible OUP journals)
The MPS centrally covers the open access charge for affiliated corresponding authors in subscription-based journals that offer the hybrid open access option and that also have a Creative Commons Attribution license (CC-BY).

Royal Society (Royal Society Open Science / Open Biology)
All publication charges for articles submitted by corresponding authors affiliated with any Max Planck institute will be directly and fully funded by the MPS.

RSC Read & Publish (Subscription-based journals with OA option)
All publication charges for Communication, Paper, Review-type articles submitted by corresponding authors affiliated with any Max Planck institute will be directly funded by the MPS. You have to fill in the online form for the CC-BY license.
Article types: communication, paper, review-type article.

SPIE Gold Open Access (All SPIE journals)
The MPS pays the voluntary page charges centrally for all articles published by MP authors in SPIE journals (proceedings are not included!).

Springer Nature Project DEAL (List of subscription-based journals)
Max Planck submitting and corresponding authors can publish their articles open access at no costs to themselves in Springer hybrid journals that are offering “Open Choice” and that also have a Creative Commons Attribution license (CC-BY). The costs for Nature fully open access journals (e.g. Nature Communications, Scientific Reports and npj Computational Materials) will be directly and fully funded via DEAL, too.
Article types in case of hybrid journals: original paper, review paper, brief communication, editorial notes, book reviews, letters, reports.
Article types in case of fully oa journals: original paper, review paper, brief communication.

Springer Open (All Springer Open journals)
Max Planck corresponding authors can publish open access at no costs to themselves in Springer Open journals.

Taylor & Francis Open Access (Subscription-based journals with OA option)
All publication charges for original paper or review paper articles submitted by corresponding authors affiliated with any Max Planck Institute will be directly funded by the MPS.
Article types: primarily article types with the nature of an original paper or review paper.

Wiley Project DEAL (Subscription-based journals with OA option + OA journals)
The Max Planck Society participates in the agreement between Project DEAL and Wiley and centrally covers the Open Access fees for affiliated corresponding authors (for primary research articles and reviews). Please select the CC-BY license to comply with the Berlin Declaration on Open Access and the guidelines of PlanS.
Article types: primary research articles or review articles.
