Free-Electron Quantum Optics: Coherent Control, Correlations, and Entanglement

Free electrons interact coherently with optical near fields, linking electron microscopy with quantum optics. This talk highlights advances in phase-sensitive electron control, cavity-mediated electron–photon correlations, and the first observation of free-electron–photon entanglement.

Beyond single-electron physics, Coulomb interactions in ultrashort pulses generate strong few-electron correlations. Together, these results establish free-electron quantum optics as a platform for controlled quantum-state preparation and readout on ultrafast and nanoscale scales.
