Big data, small data, complex data, more data, metadata − Tackling current and future challenges of scientific IT

Science faces the challenge of ever-increasing and more complex data that push existing evaluation methods to their limits. Additional requirements such as reproducibility, data security, consistency, transferability, and reusability cause significant effort and are hardly met by traditional manual workflows.

To deal with these challenges, appropriate infrastructure, resources, and competencies are needed at both the hardware and software levels.

The talk provides a brief insight into how the PP&B, the IT service group of the FHI, can support scientific groups in meeting these requirements, and what plans and developments exist at the FHI to deal with complex data acquisition, management, and processing as well as scientific simulations.

A subsequent discussion offers the opportunity to exchange experiences, share ideas, raise concerns, and suggest possible solutions.
