Prof. Robert Schlögl Honored with Doctor Honoris Causa by Sofia University
Prof. Robert Schlögl, former Director of the Department of Inorganic Chemistry at the Fritz Haber Institute and current President of the Alexander von Humboldt Foundation, has been awarded the prestigious Doctor Honoris Causa title by Sofia University.
Recognition of Scientific Excellence

Prof. Schlögl received this honorary degree in recognition of his contributions to the fields of heterogeneous catalysis and chemical energy conversion. His work has significantly advanced the understanding of energy storage materials and their technical applications. The award also acknowledges the Alexander von Humboldt Foundation's role in fostering scientific development in Bulgaria and enhancing collaboration between Sofia University and German research institutions.
Ceremony Highlights
The proposal for this honor originated from the Faculty of Chemistry and Pharmacy at Sofia University. During the ceremony, Dean Prof. Dr. Anela Ivanova highlighted Prof. Schlögl's extensive scientific achievements and his ongoing research into future energy systems. Prof. Schlögl also delivered an academic address titled "Solid Catalyst: How They Work," sharing insights from his research at the FHI.
