Conference Award for Eduardo Ortega
Dr. Eduardo Ortega from the Interface Science Department won a Postdoc Award for the presentation of his research at this year’s Microscopy & Microanalysis Meeting in Salt Lake City. His work was selected from hundreds of submissions at the world's largest meeting on microscopy and microanalysis.
Every year at the Microscopy and Microanalysis (M&M) Meeting, the sponsoring organizations, the Microscopy Society of America and the Microanalysis Society, grant awards for outstanding contributions to students, postdocs and professional technical staff. This year, from around 300 qualified applicants in this category, 18 Postdoctoral Award Scholars were selected. Among them was Dr. Ortega from the Interface Science Department. He received a M&M Postdoctoral Scholar Award for his work on the “Application of Inpainting Methods for the Improvement of STEM-Based Time-Resolved Elemental Mapping“, which he presented at the meeting. The results he shared are the outcome of a research collaboration between the Fritz Haber Institute, ThermoFisher Scientific, and the University of Liverpool.
This year's Microscopy and Microanalysis Meeting (M&M 2025) was held from July 27 to 31, 2025, in Salt Lake City, Utah. The annual M&M Meeting is the world's largest scientific conference on microscopy. The meeting is a platform for networking among professionals, scientists, technicians, students and exhibitors in the fields of microscopy and microanalysis. It provides a venue for presentations and discussions on a wide range of microscopy and microanalysis techniques and their applications in the life sciences and physical sciences, highlighting the trends in cutting-edge research and development in imaging and materials characterization.
Dr. Ortega regularly attends the M&M Meetings to discuss his research with other experts. "It is my 6th time attending. It is always motivating hearing and learning about the biggest achievements in the field and more importantly that we can also contribute and display our work", Dr. Ortega enthusiastically comments on the conference.
We are delighted for Dr. Ortega and congratulate him on his award. We wish him all the best for his future research here at the institute and look forward to his upcoming research results.
