ISE Fellow Award to Beatriz Roldan Cuenya
At the Annual Meeting of the International Society of Electrochemistry (ISE) in Mainz in September 2025, Prof. Dr. Beatriz Roldan Cuenya, our Managing Director and Director of the Interface Science Department, was ceremonially inducted into the ranks of ISE Fellows.
Each year, the ISE recognizes exceptional scientific and technical contributions to the field of electrochemistry by appointing a selected number of its members as ISE Fellows. In 2025, Prof. Dr. Roldán Cuenya was chosen for this great honor in recognition of her groundbreaking research on in-situ/operando spectroscopic and microscopic studies of electrocatalytic processes.
At this year's ISE Annual Meeting held in Mainz from September 7 to 12, Prof. Dr. Roldan Cuenya was ceremoniously awarded the ISE Fellowship by ISE President Prof. Plamen Atanassov from the University of California Irvine. The Fellowship is the highest honor bestowed by the ISE and recognizes her groundbreaking contributions in the field of electrocatalysis. A total of five internationally recognized scientists were inducted into the ranks of ISE Fellows in 2025. Alongside Prof. Dr. Roldan Cuenya, Prof. Gerardine G. Botte, from Texas Tech University, Prof. Dr. Manuel Rodrigo from the University of Castilla-La Mancha, Prof. Lin Zhuang from Wuhan University and Prof. David Wilkinson from the University of British Columbia also received the prestigious ISE Fellowship 2025 award.
The International Society of Electrochemistry (ISE), founded in 1949, is a global scientific organization that aims to advance electrochemical science and technology. Moreover, the ISE promotes international cooperation of electrochemistry and the dissemination of scientific and technological knowledge in the field. Attended by 1200-1800 electrochemists per season, the ISE Annual Meetings are recognized international conferences on electrochemistry and related fields such as new materials, energy storage and conversion techniques or electronics.
The election of Prof. Dr. Roldan Cuenya as an ISE Fellow underscores her important role as a globally renowned scientist in the field of electrochemistry, particularly electrocatalysis, and also highlights the excellence of the research conducted at the Fritz Haber Institute in this field. We congratulate her most warmly on this well-deserved reward and express our appreciation for her outstanding research achievements.
