David successfully defends his master thesis! Congrats!

June 23, 2025
David, our most recent master student, successfully defended his master thesis today. The thesis focused on the investigation of isomerisation reactions of the norbornyl system using our helium nanodroplets instrument. In the course of his work, David could characterise a non-classical structure of the 2-norbornyl cation. After a summer off, we welcome David back as PhD co-worker!

A warm welcome to Anoushka!

June 09, 2025
Anoushka joins us from Chicago for the summer as a DAAD RISE fellow. Working with America, Anoushka will investigate hydrogen bonded cluster of low molecular weight acids and learn all about our approach to IR spectroscopy in helium nanodroplets and soon try two colour experiments. Enjoy!
A new paper by America is now out!
Join us in exploring the role of proton bonding in the sub-Kelvin regime in PCCP!

Department Retreat on Ringberg Castle

November 18, 2024
Mid-November, we had the pleasure to travel to Ringberg Castle on top of Tegernsee for our annual department retreat.
The first half of the week was dedictated to strengthen the ties with our colleagues from HFML-Felix lab in Nijmegen as part of the MPG Radboud Centre on IR FELs.
The second part of the week was a purely internal workshop focussing on updating us on our science and strengthening the social ties.
In addition to very fruitful scientific discussions, we were able to enjoy the Bavarian cuisine and the stunning landscape surrounding the castle.
